Is Snowshoe good for beginners?

The short answer

Yes. Snowshoe has a dedicated learning slope, Skidder, right off the Village, gentler terrain at Silver Creek, first-timer lessons at both, and the resort rates about 30% of its terrain as beginner. The one thing to know: the Village is at the top, so your first run of the day is a run down.

Where beginners ski

Skidder Slope, next to the Village and Expedition Station, is the learning area. Most lessons meet here.
Silver Creek is its own hill with gentler terrain, night skiing, and the tube park, and it has its own first-timer lesson.
The resort lists Gangway, Log Slide, Whistlepunk, and Powderidge among its easy runs once you have your turns.
Skip the Western Territory on a first trip. It is the steep, expert side of the mountain.

Lessons and the beginner ticket

Learn to Ski/Ride is the first-timer lesson for ages 13 and up: about 1.5 hours at the Village, or a 3-hour version at Silver Creek. The resort's Intro to Snow ticket is good only on Skidder Slope and at Silver Creek, which is exactly where a beginner should be. Book lessons ahead on holiday weekends; walk-ups are not guaranteed.

The upside-down mountain

Most ski areas start at the bottom. Snowshoe starts at the top: the Village sits on the summit at 4,848 feet and the lifts bring you back up to it. For a beginner that means the learning slope is the place to start the day, not the first run you see from the Village.
