One more thing, specific to the chefs: in September 2026 we personally emailed everyone in the “In-home private chefs” and “Catering and delivery” sections to ask if they wanted to be listed. The three chefs under “The chefs who said yes” wrote back and agreed. Everyone marked “reply pending” is a real, researched option we would still point you to, we just have not heard back from them yet.

Honest version: nobody runs a private chef business on the mountain itself. We emailed eighteen chefs and caterers within reach in September 2026 and asked. The three below wrote back and said yes, so start there. Everyone after them is a real lead we have researched but have not personally heard from yet.

Timing, what to say, what the house has

Chefs who come to Snowshoe are driving 90 minutes to 3 hours each way with coolers in the back. Notice is the whole game.

Holiday and festival weekends: 3 to 4 weeks. Christmas week, MLK, Presidents' Day, Ballhooter, 4848, GNCC.
A normal winter Saturday: 2 weeks.
Summer midweek: a few days is often enough.
Grocery delivery: order by 1 pm the day before you want it in the fridge.

Tell the chef

Which home, the exact Google pin we send you, and that street addresses resolve to the resort gate.
Head count, ages of any children, and every allergy or restriction, on the first message.
The night and the time you want to sit down. Ski days end at 4:30, so 7 pm is the usual ask.
Whether you want them to shop, or you will have the grocery delivery bring the list.
Cell service fades on the climb. Give them your check-in code plan and a text-first way to reach you.

A full kitchen

Range, oven, full-size fridge, microwave, and a dishwasher in every home. Standard pots, pans, knives, and a set of serving dishes. Chefs usually bring their own knives and specialty pans anyway.

A grill at most homes

Timbers 3, Timbers 5, and the three Summit condos have a grill outside. 305 Soaring Eagle and 1208 Silver Creek do not. Tell the chef, it changes the menu in summer.

Seating

Timbers 3 and Timbers 5 have large dining tables and the most counter space, which is why chefs prefer them for a plated dinner. 305 Soaring Eagle and 1208 Silver Creek are condos with elevators, so a chef with coolers and crates has an easy carry. The Summit condos have a walk-up.

What dinner in the house typically costs

These are typical ranges for rural West Virginia in 2026, pulled from published marketplace rates and national guides. They are not quotes. Every provider prices their own work, and travel to the mountain is the number that surprises people.

Tipping: not required when the quote is all-inclusive, but 10 to 20 percent in cash is customary and appreciated, more if the chef shopped and cleaned.

Can I hire a private chef at Snowshoe, WV?

Yes, with notice. No chef is based on the mountain, but Chef Derrick Helzer in Elkins cooks private dinner parties about an hour away, and marketplaces like Take a Chef and yhangry will send chefs from Virginia and Maryland for a travel fee.

Book two to four weeks ahead in ski season and say the home is in Snowshoe, WV 26209 so only chefs who will make the drive respond.

How far in advance should I book a chef for a ski weekend?

Three to four weeks for a holiday weekend (MLK, Presidents' Day, Christmas week) or a festival weekend like Ballhooter or 4848. Two weeks for a regular winter Saturday.

Summer midweek can sometimes be arranged in a few days. Grocery delivery only needs a day.

How much does a private chef dinner cost near Snowshoe?

Typical, not a quote: $75 to $135 per person for a marketplace chef, $60 to $120 for an independent local chef, plus $100 to $300 for the drive to the mountain.

A three-course dinner for eight usually lands between $900 and $1,600 all in. Marketplace minimums of about $1,000 are common.

Do I tip a private chef?

Not required when the quote is all-inclusive, but customary. Ten to twenty percent of the food and service fee in cash at the end of the night is the norm.

Most guests tip on the higher end when the chef also shopped and cleaned up. Grocery delivery drivers appreciate cash or Venmo too.

What if no chef is available on my dates?

Order ahead. The Kickin' Chicken at the base of the mountain does rotisserie family meals with call-ahead carryout, Greenbrier Grille in Marlinton takes online takeout orders, and Foxfire Grille and The Junction in the Village both do takeout if you call.
