The grocery stop on your route

    Your last full grocery store. About 1 hour 15 minutes before the mountain. Do the big shop here.

    Dollar General, Slaty Fork

    The most real store near the base for pantry staples, paper goods, and snacks.

    Par Mar, Slaty Fork

    Fill the tank here. There is no gas on the mountain. Ice, firewood, beer, and forgotten basics, open late.

    Wildcat Grocery, the Village

    A short drive or shuttle ride from your home. Basics and top-ups at resort prices.

Arrive and settle in

  1. On the drive

    Grocery stop before the mountain: Kroger or Walmart in Elkins from the north, Marlinton IGA from the south

    The full groceries are in Marlinton (30 to 40 minutes) or Elkins (about an hour), so stock up on the way in.

  2. Check in

    Settle in at your home

    Your door code and arrival notes come in your check-in message and your Guest Lounge once you book.

  3. Evening

    Dinner at Elk River Inn & Restaurant, in Slatyfork

    A gourmet, health-conscious menu with a pub-style bar in Slatyfork; also runs guided fly-fishing trips. About 25-30 min away. Hours: Dinner service limited outside ski season, call ahead to confirm. First night, no cooking after the drive.

Day 2 · Saturday, October 31

Hike day

  1. Morning

    Hike: Seneca Rocks Hiking Trail

    Hard. 2.6 miles. 60-75 min from the mountain. Steps and switchbacks climb to an observation platform near the summit of Seneca Rocks.

  2. Afternoon

    Skating at The Rink, Mountain Lodge

    Indoor rink, so the weather does not matter. Hours: Daily, 50-min sessions, first at 10am, last at 7pm.

  3. Evening

    Dinner is open tonight

    Cook in, or pick from the where-to-eat guide; it carries the hours we have for the Village kitchens.

Checkout day

  1. Morning

    Pack up and run the checkout list

    It is short, and it is in your Guest Lounge once you book. Leave it the way you found it and the return code follows.

  2. On the way down

    One last stop: coffee or lunch in Marlinton or Elkins

    Heading south: The Dirt Bean in Marlinton (Mon-Tue 7am-3pm, Wed-Sat 7am-7pm, closed Sun). Heading north: Beander's Restaurant & Tavern in Elkins (Kitchen: Mon-Thu 11am-10pm, Fri-Sat 12pm-12am; closed Sun).
