From late May to mid-October the lifts turn for bikes, the lake opens at the summit, and afternoons run in the 70s while the cities below bake. Here is everything worth doing on and around the mountain in summer, the events June through September, and the homes that fit a summer trip.

What to do in summer
Shavers Lake
The sand beach, kayaks, paddleboards, and the Boathouse at the summit, on the summer schedule from about Memorial Day weekend to mid-October.
Raven Golf Club
Eighteen holes designed by Gary Player, open from mid-April into the fall.
Greenbrier River Trail
A flat, 78-mile rail trail with a grade that never passes 1 percent. Cass is its northern end; Marlinton, about 35 to 40 minutes from the mountain, has the bike shops and shuttles.
Cass Scenic Railroad
Steam trains up the mountain from Cass, about 25 minutes away. Trains run in summer and fall, but not every day, so book ahead with the operator.
Hiking and fly fishing
The Shavers Lake loop, the fire tower climb, Falls of Hills Creek, and six trout rivers within 90 minutes.
Also in summer: Split Rock Pools, scenic lift rides, the zipline, the rock wall, and off-road tours. The Summer Fun Pass is included only with resort-booked lodging; staying with us, you buy the day pass or pay per activity.

When is summer season at Snowshoe?
About May 21, when the Bike Park opens, through the Bike Park's closing weekend in the second week of October. Before and after, the resort is in its spring and fall closures.
Is Snowshoe worth visiting in summer?
Yes. It is one of the coolest summer escapes in the Mid-Atlantic, at 4,848 feet, with a lift-served bike park, a lake, golf, and festivals.
Does Cass Scenic Railroad run in summer?
Yes. Trains run in summer and fall, but not every day, so check the operator's calendar and book ahead. Cass is about 25 minutes from the Village.
How far is the Greenbrier River Trail from Snowshoe?
